Career Course 4-07- TD#6 – Comp One/Sergeant Major

Today begins my second week at the Career Course. So far everything is going pretty good but as I get deeper into the course the curriculum will get much harder. Starting with this week my time management skills will be put to the test. We are getting more assignments and harder classes.
Our first multiple choice test was today in the morning. It is one of four multiple choice tests that we will be taking through out the course. This test was pretty easy. It consisted of 50 multiple choice questions and nothing more. They aren’t your ordinary questions though. Most tests, whether multiple choice or written, are designed to test your knowledge or mastery of a subject. Well these tests, as well as the ones I took in Corporals Course and Sergeants Course are designed with something else in mind. It doesn’t matter whether you know anything or not, its more like whether you can remember what the book said and whether you can predict the present, past and future. I may be exaggerating just a bit here but not by much.
Well after the test was over and done, I got a 94%. That isn’t bad but I was very confident that I may have gotten a 100%. I missed three questions for very stupid reasons. Again this goes to my ability to predict time which obviously wasn’t very good. My platoon got the best average and we won the “golden book” for the time being. Again not a bad score for the first test but I really wanted that hundred. The next test will be composed of subjects that I am very weak in. I fear the worse for this next test but as long as I get an 80% or above then I’m good. Enough on that.
After the test we participated in an Academy Run lead by the Sergeant Major of the academy. Last week the Sergeant Major spoke to the class and he mentioned how he loved PT and how he is very good at it. All last week, the instructors insisted on telling us how good the Sergeant Major was and that the run was going to be fast and painful. Right before the run I thought to myself that maybe this run should be conducted towards the end of the course. That would give us time to get into peak shape and then the Sergeant Major wouldn’t be able to bully us around and scare us.
After the run began I realized that maybe some people were greatly exaggerating. The run was about maybe three to four miles and it was a very good pace. Slow enough to keep everyone together and allow everyone to sing cadence without dying from exhaustion. Our very first run, called a “Familiarization Run”, was suppose to be exactly like this. It was suppose to be a slow, smooth run to allow us to get familiar with the base. Instead certain some bodies decided to do the opposite and literally sprint the whole way. The Sergeant Major’s run was motivating with a nice smooth pace.
My bed time is coming up soon so I’ll end this here. I’m moving from bed time from 8:45 in the PM to 8:30. I have about an hour left or so left to study a bit more and catch up on my news. Later.
