So Far So Good

I have to say that the past few days haven’t been too bad. I’ll try to summarize what I’ve done in as fewest words as possible.

My parents have this new house that they built where the house that they originally purchased was. In other words, they purchased an old ass house just for the lot and tore it down. Anyway, the new house still has some features of the old house like a chicken coupe. Roosters and hens walk around the backyard like they own it (which they do by the way). Ok now we all know what roosters are suppose to do every morning right. I don’t exactly know at what time it happens but one of the roosters here seems to go off doing its cockadoodoodoo crap every freaking morning. Its darks outside when he does it so its either uncalibrated or its just really early. Well thats that.

For the past two days I have been doing the world tour of visiting everyone. Honestly I just came here, this time, just to show my face. Its been 8 1/2 years since I’ve been here. My cousins that were 8, 9 and 10 are obviously no longer that age. My cousins that were 14, 15 and 16 aren’t that age any longer either. I’m not trying to state the obvious. I’m trying to make a point that a lot can and will change in 8+ years. Just like in NYC, everyone has out grown. I have missed so many family events that I don’t even feel related anymore. I have only me to blame because I did not make the conscience effort to come here more often. One of my favorite cousins here is now a doctor and she has her own life. Beyond saying hi, I haven’t even spoken to her. Eight years ago we were inseparable. Well thats that.

Last night we went to the sea side. Its called the Malecon. I haven’t the slightest clue what that is or what it means. Santo Domingo, the capital, is on the southern coast of this island facing the Caribbean Sea. Basically it is just a bunch of bars, clubs and casinos. We got on a horse buggy and took a ride. I really can’t say much. I promise to post pictures once I get back. Today we went to the beach and had a blast. The name of the beach is Boca Chica. If I were to translate that directly, it would mean “Female Mouth”. Get your mind out of the gutter. Again pictures are worth a thousand words. Tonight we just got back from the movies. Let me just say that it wasn’t a pleasant experience. We saw Chicken Little. It was also in Spanish. I have to say that even though I only understood about 30% of the movie, I did enjoy it very much. The theater was filled with kids, kids, kids. I only understood a few parts based on their reactions. Well thats that.

I would love to post pictures but I’m already afraid of my phone bill. Although it takes less than 30 seconds to post this online via my phone, I do not have a data plan and I’m in a different country. Tomorrow I am leaving the city and heading towards the country side to spend the New Years. Now this ain’t no country like the States. I won’t be seeing no country singing white folk around there. For the third time I would like to post some pictures but again I’m going to have to wait. Well thats it for now. I can go on and on but I don’t feel like writing a book and I’m sure you don’t feel like reading one. I probably won’t post again until after New Years so I wish everyone a happy new years. Laterz.
